Don’t Start Something You Can’t Finish

This has become a big one for me. I usually practice this idea to some degree when I’m out at a restaurant or bar – I know what my eyes can’t eat. But, being a serial entrepreneur, you have to really pick your battles for attention. An even deadlier mix is being surrounded by “creative” people and outlets all day long. Fight Fire With Water

You often hear slogans like “an eye for an eye” or “fight fire with fire”, but that sort of thinking only intensifies situations in a hurtful and harmful way. I’m more of a lover than a fighter, so I’m more about finding common ground and a way to neutralize bad situations – usually to my advantage of course That’s why I practice fighting fires with water instead. See where I’m going with this? There are times I don’t look forward to doing certain things, but I do it so my troops know I’m willing to do it and that it can be done.…

Do. There Is No Try

To paraphrase one of my favorite childhood teachers, Master Yoda, “Only do, there is no try”. Trying is non-committal. It forms a mentality of being present but not actually being there. I don’t mean trying like sampling a new meal or laundry detergent. I’m talking about commitment to a particular goal or action step. It’s pretty black or white – I’m either going to do something or I won’t. That applies to endeavors I pursue or work that I perform.…
